Can I play my own music during workouts?Updated 2 months ago
Yes! Music Integration Works
You can absolutely play your own music from Spotify, Apple Music, or any other music app while doing CENTR workouts. Many members love training to their own playlists, and the app is designed to work seamlessly with your music.
How to Play Your Music During Workouts
- Open your preferred music app (Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, YouTube Music, or any other app)
- Start playing your playlist, album, or song
- Switch to the CENTR app
- Start your workout as usual
- The trainer's voice will automatically play OVER your music
That's it! Your music continues playing in the background while the trainer's instructions and coaching cues come through clearly on top of your soundtrack.
How the Audio Works Together
CENTR is designed so that:
- Your music plays continuously in the background
- The trainer's voice automatically overlays your music when they speak
- Both audio streams blend together without you needing to pause your music
- Your music doesn't stop or restart between exercises
Volume Balancing Tips
To get the best audio experience with both your music and the trainer:
- Start your music slightly quieter than usual: This ensures you can hear the trainer's instructions clearly
- Adjust your music volume in your music app: Use the music app's volume control to set your background music level
- Adjust CENTR audio separately: Use your device's system volume or in-app audio settings to control the trainer's voice
- Test and adjust: Start a workout and fine-tune the balance - you want to hear both the music and the trainer clearly
- Ideal balance: Music should be noticeable but not overpowering, trainer voice should be crisp and clear
Recommended Music for Different Workouts
Consider matching your music choice to your workout type:
- HIIT & Boxing: High-energy, fast-tempo tracks (120-140+ BPM) to match the intensity
- Strength Training: Motivating, powerful music with a steady beat
- Yoga & Pilates: Calmer, instrumental tracks that support focus and flow (or use the workout's built-in audio)
- Personal preference wins: Ultimately, whatever music motivates YOU is the right choice
Troubleshooting Music Playback
Music Stops When Starting Workout
- This can happen on some devices - if it does, restart your music after starting the workout
- Make sure your music app is fully loaded and playing before switching to CENTR
- Try starting the workout first, then switching back to your music app to resume
Can't Hear Trainer Over Music
- Lower your music volume in the music app
- Increase system volume on your device
- Check if your music app has an EQ setting that might be drowning out voice frequencies
Music Too Loud, Trainer Too Quiet
- This is typically fixed by adjusting the balance: reduce music app volume, keep system volume moderate
- Some devices allow independent app volume control - check your device settings
Bluetooth Headphones & Speakers
Music integration works great with:
- Bluetooth headphones and earbuds
- Bluetooth speakers
- Wired headphones
- Your device's built-in speakers
Just ensure your Bluetooth device is properly connected before starting both your music and your workout.
Create Your Perfect Workout Environment
The ability to play your own music is one of the most popular features among CENTR members. Whether you need high-energy tracks to push through a tough HIIT session, or calming music for yoga, you have complete control over your workout soundtrack.
