I cancelled my subscription but was still chargedUpdated 2 months ago

This is a Common Situation - Let's Figure Out What Happened

Being charged after you cancelled your subscription is frustrating, and we understand your concern. The good news is that this situation is usually straightforward to resolve. There are several possible explanations, and we'll help you understand what happened and what to do about it.

First: Are You Actually Being Charged, or Do You Still Have Access?

This is the most common source of confusion and affects many customers. These are two different things:

  • Still being charged = New charges appearing on your bank statement or credit card after cancellation
  • Still have access = You can still use the CENTR app after cancelling

Important: Continuing to have access after cancellation is completely normal and does NOT mean you're still being charged.

Why You Still Have Access After Cancelling

When you cancel your CENTR subscription, you keep full access until the end of your current billing period. This is intentional - you already paid for that time, so you deserve to use it.

Example:

  • Your monthly subscription renews on the 15th of each month
  • You cancel on October 10
  • You keep full access through October 15 (the end of your paid period)
  • No charge occurs on October 15 - cancellation prevents renewal
  • Your access ends on October 15

So if you cancelled and can still use the app, check your bank statement to see if there are actually NEW charges, or if you're just using the time you already paid for.

Common Reasons for Charges After Cancellation

Reason 1: You Cancelled Less Than 24 Hours Before Renewal (Apple/Google)

Most common cause for Apple and Google subscriptions.

Apple App Store and Google Play require at least 24 hours notice to prevent the next renewal charge. If you cancelled too close to your renewal date, one final charge may have occurred before the cancellation took effect.

What happened:

  • Your renewal was scheduled for November 15
  • You cancelled on November 14 (less than 24 hours before)
  • Apple/Google already processed or scheduled the renewal
  • One final charge occurred
  • Your subscription won't renew again after this charge

What to do: This charge may be refundable. Request a refund through Apple or Google and explain the situation.

Reason 2: You Cancelled AFTER Your Renewal Already Happened

Very common misunderstanding.

If you were charged and THEN cancelled, the charge is valid - you were charged for a new period before you cancelled it.

Example timeline:

  • November 15: Your subscription automatically renewed and you were charged $29.99
  • November 16: You cancelled your subscription
  • The November 15 charge is valid - you will have access through December 15
  • Cancellation prevents the December 15 charge

What this means:

  • The charge you received is for the new billing period
  • You will have access for the full period you were charged for
  • No future charges will occur
  • You may be eligible for a refund depending on platform policy (see refund article)

What to do: If you want a refund for this charge, request a refund through your platform (Apple, Google, or CENTR).

Reason 3: The Cancellation Didn't Process Correctly

Less common, but does happen.

Technical errors, incomplete cancellation steps, or system issues can prevent a cancellation from being processed.

Possible causes:

  • You thought you cancelled but didn't complete all the steps
  • You cancelled in the CENTR app (which doesn't actually cancel the subscription - must cancel through platform)
  • A system error prevented the cancellation from saving
  • You cancelled one subscription but have another subscription you forgot about

What to do: Verify your cancellation status (see instructions below) and contact support if the cancellation wasn't processed.

Reason 4: You Have Multiple Subscriptions

Surprisingly common.

You might have cancelled one CENTR subscription but have another active subscription on a different platform or email address.

Examples:

  • You have both a web subscription and an Apple subscription
  • You subscribed under two different email addresses
  • You subscribed on both iPhone and Android
  • Family member has their own subscription on your payment method

What to do: Check all platforms (Apple, Google, Web) and all email addresses you use to see if multiple subscriptions exist.

How to Verify Your Cancellation Status

For Apple App Store Subscriptions

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad
  2. Tap your name at the top
  3. Select "Subscriptions"
  4. Find CENTR in your subscription list
  5. Check the status:
    • If successfully cancelled: Shows "Expires on [date]"
    • If still active: Shows "Renews on [date]" with next charge amount

If it shows "Renews on [date]" then the cancellation didn't process and you're still subscribed. Cancel it now to prevent future charges.

For Google Play Subscriptions

  1. Open the Google Play Store app
  2. Tap your Profile icon (top right)
  3. Tap "Payments & subscriptions""Subscriptions"
  4. Find CENTR
  5. Check the status:
    • If successfully cancelled: Shows "Expires on [date]"
    • If still active: Shows "Renews on [date]"

If it shows a future renewal date, the cancellation didn't work. Cancel now to stop future charges.

For Web Subscriptions (centr.com)

If you subscribed through the CENTR website and contacted support to cancel, you should have received a confirmation email stating:

"We've processed the cancellation on your behalf and no further payments will be taken."

  • If you received this email: Cancellation was successful
  • If you didn't receive confirmation: Contact [email protected] to verify cancellation status

What to Do If You Were Charged After Cancelling

Step 1: Check Your Bank Statement

Confirm there is actually a NEW charge (not just continued access or a pending charge from before you cancelled).

  • Look for the charge date
  • Note the amount
  • Compare to your cancellation date

Step 2: Determine When You Cancelled vs When You Were Charged

If you cancelled BEFORE the charge date:

  • You should NOT have been charged
  • This may be a billing error or cancellation didn't process
  • Contact support immediately for investigation and refund

If you cancelled AFTER the charge date:

  • The charge is valid - you were charged for a new period, then cancelled
  • You'll have access through the end of the paid period
  • You can request a refund based on platform policy

If you cancelled less than 24 hours before renewal (Apple/Google):

  • One final charge likely occurred due to timing
  • Request refund through Apple/Google explaining you cancelled but were still charged

Step 3: Request Refund or Investigation

For Apple App Store subscriptions:

  1. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID
  3. Find the CENTR charge
  4. Request a refund
  5. Explain: "I cancelled my subscription on [date] but was still charged on [date]"

For Google Play subscriptions:

  1. Open Google Play Store → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Budget & history
  2. Find the CENTR charge
  3. Tap "Request a refund"
  4. Explain the situation
  5. If Google denies, contact CENTR support for review

For Web subscriptions:

  1. Email [email protected] immediately
  2. Include:
    • When you cancelled (date and how you cancelled)
    • Whether you received cancellation confirmation
    • When you were charged (date and amount)
    • Whether you still have access to the app
  3. CENTR will investigate within 24 hours
  4. If you were charged in error, full refund will be processed

Preventing Future Charges

Once you verify the cancellation:

  • Save confirmation: Keep cancellation confirmation emails or take screenshots of "Expires on [date]" status
  • Set a reminder: Check your account a few days before the expiration date to ensure no renewal
  • Monitor your bank: Watch for any charges in the weeks following cancellation
  • Contact support immediately: If any unexpected charges appear after confirmation of cancellation

Common Questions

"I have access but I cancelled - am I being charged?"

No. Having access after cancellation is normal. You're using the time you already paid for. Check your bank statement for NEW charges to confirm you're not being billed.

"How long will I keep access after cancelling?"

Until the end of your current billing period. Check:

  • Apple: Settings → Subscriptions → Shows "Expires on [date]"
  • Google: Play Store → Subscriptions → Shows "Expires on [date]"
  • Web: Access continues through the end of your current billing cycle

"I cancelled in the app but was still charged"

The CENTR app itself doesn't have the ability to cancel subscriptions. You must cancel through:

  • iPhone: iPhone Settings (not CENTR app)
  • Android: Google Play Store app (not CENTR app)
  • Web: Contact support at [email protected]

If you only "cancelled" in the CENTR app, your subscription is still active. Cancel it properly now to prevent further charges.

"How do I know if my cancellation worked?"

  • Apple: Settings → Subscriptions → Should show "Expires on [date]" (not "Renews on [date]")
  • Google: Play Store → Subscriptions → Should show "Expires on [date]"
  • Web: You received email confirmation from CENTR support

Still Need Help?

If you're unsure whether you were charged in error or need help investigating:

Contact CENTR Support:

  • Email: [email protected]
  • Subject: "Charged After Cancellation"
  • Include:
    • When you cancelled (approximate date)
    • How you cancelled (iPhone Settings, Google Play, email to support, etc.)
    • Whether you received cancellation confirmation
    • When you were charged (date and amount)
    • Whether you still have access to CENTR

CENTR support will investigate your cancellation status and process a refund if you were charged in error. They typically respond within 24 hours.
