How do I restart a program?Updated 2 months ago
Starting Over with a Program
Whether you want to repeat a program you completed or start fresh after taking a break, restarting a program is straightforward in CENTR.
How to Restart a Program
The process is simple:
- Leave the program you want to restart
- Go to the Programs tab
- Find the same program again
- Join the program
- You'll start back at Day 1 / Week 1
That's it - you're restarted and ready to go through the program again from the beginning.
Why Programs Don't Bookmark Your Position
CENTR programs are designed to start fresh each time you join. Programs don't save your position or let you resume from where you left off. This is intentional for several important reasons:
- Proper progression: Programs build logically from foundation to advanced - starting at Day 1 ensures you follow the intended progression
- Skill development: Early program workouts re-establish proper form and technique
- Adaptation period: Your body needs to re-adapt if you've taken time away from training
- Fresh start mentality: Beginning at Day 1 creates renewed commitment and motivation
When to Restart a Program
After Completing It
Many members repeat their favorite programs multiple times. Reasons to restart after completion:
- You loved the program and want to do it again with heavier weights or better form
- You want to beat your previous performance
- The program delivered great results and you want to maintain them
- You're waiting for a new program to launch
After Taking a Break
If you left a program partway through and want to start again:
- You took time off and want to restart properly from Day 1
- Life interrupted your program and you want a fresh start
- You weren't following it consistently and want to recommit
If You Want to Switch to a Different Level
Some programs offer multiple levels (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced). To try a different level:
- Leave your current level version
- Join the different level version
- Start from Day 1 at the new difficulty
What Happens When You Restart?
Your History Remains
When you restart a program:
- Previous workout completions stay saved: Your Activity history shows all past completions
- Logged weights remain: Your Logbook keeps all your strength tracking data
- Progress isn't erased: You don't lose any data from previous attempts
You Simply Start at Day 1 Again
The program schedule resets:
- You begin with the first workout
- The program presents workouts in order from the start
- It's a fresh cycle through the program content
Alternative: Pick Up Where You Left Off Manually
If you remember where you stopped in a program and want to continue from that point:
- Don't formally restart the program
- Navigate to Explore and search for the specific workouts you need
- Do those workouts as standalone sessions
- Continue manually through the program sequence
This works if you know the program structure and which workouts come next, but requires more effort than letting the program guide you.
Repeating Programs for Better Results
Why Repeat a Program?
Repeating the same program often yields better results the second time through:
- Familiarity with movements: You know the exercises, so you can focus on intensity
- Improved form: Second time through, your technique is better
- Heavier weights: You're stronger, so you can lift more
- Mental confidence: You know what's coming and feel prepared
- Faster recovery: Your body adapts more efficiently
How Many Times to Repeat?
There's no limit - some members do favorite programs 3, 4, or more times. Repeat until:
- You stop seeing progress
- You're ready for something new
- Your goals change
- You want a different challenge
Multiple Programs and Restarting
If you're enrolled in multiple programs and want to restart just one:
- Leave only the program you want to restart
- Your other active programs remain active
- Rejoin the program you're restarting
- Continue with all your programs as before
Restarting vs. Joining Something New
Before restarting a program, consider if you might benefit more from trying something new:
- Restart if: The program was perfect for your goals, you want to improve performance, you trust the program structure
- Try something new if: You want variety, your goals have changed, you're ready for a different challenge, you didn't love the first program
Tips for Successful Program Restarts
- Review before starting: Remind yourself of the program structure and goals
- Set new targets: Use heavier weights, improve form, or reduce rest periods
- Track improvements: Compare performance to your first time through
- Stay committed: Complete the full program this time, even if you didn't before
- Modify if needed: Apply what you learned the first time to train smarter
