How do I cast to Chromecast?Updated 2 months ago

Quick Answer

You can cast CENTR coached workouts to your TV using Google Chromecast. Connect from your Android app using GoogleCast, or cast from your web browser (desktop or mobile) using Google Chromecast.

Requirements for Chromecast

Before casting CENTR to your TV, ensure you have:

  • A Chromecast device connected to your TV
  • Your mobile device or computer on the same WiFi network as Chromecast
  • The latest version of the CENTR Android app or a Chromecast-compatible web browser
  • A stable WiFi connection for smooth video streaming

Casting from Android App

CENTR's Android app supports casting directly to your Chromecast-enabled TV using GoogleCast.

Start Casting from Android

  1. Ensure your Android device and Chromecast are on the same WiFi network
  2. Open the CENTR app on your Android device
  3. Navigate to a Coached Workout you want to stream
  4. Look for the Cast icon (rectangle with WiFi waves) in the workout player
  5. Tap the Cast icon
  6. Select your Chromecast device from the list
  7. Wait for the connection to establish
  8. Start your workout - it will now play on your TV

Your TV will display the workout video while your Android device acts as a remote control.

Casting from Web Browser

You can also cast CENTR workouts from any web browser that supports Google Chromecast.

Desktop or Mobile Browser

  1. Open Google Chrome or another Chromecast-compatible browser
  2. Navigate to centr.com and log in to your account
  3. Find a Coached Workout you want to stream
  4. Click the three-dot menu in your browser (or the Cast icon if visible)
  5. Select "Cast" from the menu
  6. Choose your Chromecast device from the available devices
  7. Select to cast the tab or your entire screen
  8. Start the workout - it will stream to your TV

This method works from both desktop computers and mobile devices using a web browser.

Controlling Playback While Casting

When casting to Chromecast, you control playback from your phone or computer:

  • Play/Pause: Use controls on your device
  • Volume: Adjust volume on your TV or through casting controls
  • Skip/Rewind: Use video player controls on your device
  • Stop casting: Tap the Cast icon again and select "Stop casting"

Troubleshooting Chromecast Connection

Can't Find Chromecast Device

If your Chromecast doesn't appear in the device list:

  1. Verify both devices are on the same WiFi network (not guest network)
  2. Restart your Chromecast by unplugging it for 10 seconds
  3. Restart your mobile device or computer
  4. Move closer to your WiFi router to improve signal strength
  5. Ensure your Chromecast is powered on and connected to your TV
  6. Check that your TV is set to the correct HDMI input

Connection Keeps Dropping

If your cast connection is unstable:

  1. Check your WiFi signal strength - move router closer if possible
  2. Close other apps or devices using significant bandwidth
  3. Reduce video quality if available (enable Low Data Mode in CENTR)
  4. Restart your WiFi router
  5. Ensure no one else is streaming 4K video or large downloads on the same network

Audio/Video Sync Issues

If you're experiencing sync problems where audio and video don't match:

  1. Stop casting and restart the workout
  2. Check your TV's audio delay settings (some TVs have built-in audio sync adjustment)
  3. Try casting from a different device to rule out device-specific issues
  4. Ensure your Chromecast firmware is up to date

Video Quality Issues or Buffering

If the video quality is poor or constantly buffering:

  1. Check your internet speed (minimum 5 Mbps for HD streaming recommended)
  2. Move your router closer to the Chromecast
  3. Reduce other network activity (pause downloads, limit other streams)
  4. Enable Low Data Mode in CENTR workout settings to reduce bandwidth requirements
  5. Use a wired Ethernet connection to your router if Chromecast supports it (Chromecast Ultra)

No Sound on TV

Based on user reports, some workouts may have music issues when streaming to TV:

  • Music may play during warm-up and cool-down but not during main workout sections
  • This is a known issue that has been reported to the development team
  • Workaround: Use external speakers connected to your device for consistent audio
  • Contact support if this issue affects your experience

Same WiFi Network Requirement

The most common cause of casting problems is network mismatch:

  • Check your device's WiFi: Settings > WiFi (note the network name)
  • Check Chromecast network: Open Google Home app > select Chromecast > Settings > WiFi
  • Must match exactly: Both must be on the same network
  • Avoid guest networks: Guest networks often block device-to-device communication

Optimizing Your Big Screen Workout

Tips for the best TV workout experience:

  • Position your device nearby: Keep your phone/tablet close for easy control access
  • Adjust TV volume before starting: Set comfortable audio level before beginning workout
  • Ensure good WiFi coverage: Both in your workout space and where Chromecast is located
  • Close unnecessary apps: Free up device resources for smooth casting
  • Use Bluetooth headphones sparingly: May cause audio sync issues when casting

Alternative: HDMI Cable Connection

If Chromecast isn't working reliably, you can use a physical connection:

  1. Get an HDMI adapter for your mobile device (USB-C to HDMI or Lightning to HDMI)
  2. Connect your device directly to your TV
  3. Select the appropriate HDMI input on your TV
  4. Play workout directly on your device

This eliminates WiFi dependency and provides the most stable connection.
